Energy Secretary overturns law banning councils from selling renewable electricity
Chris Huhne has now changed the position of local authorities, so from 18th August they are allowed to sell electricity that is generated by renewables on council properties. In the past, local authorities could generate power, but only for their own use. Local authorities can now take “their rightful place leading a local power revolution”. They can also benefit from feed in tariffs.
Call to switch off night lights in Carmarthenshire
I know it is not Epsom, but what a good idea to encourage here ! Should we be lobbying for this?
4.8.2010 (BBC) Carmarthenshire businesses and public sector organisations have been asked by the council to switch off lights overnight. More than 1,100 lights have been turned off by the authority to cut its carbon footprint and energy costs. The council now wants others to look at cutting back on outside lighting overnight. Road agencies are being asked if they have any energy-saving lighting initiatives planned
